Those date auction things always seemed a bit creepy to us. Obviously, they’re for charity (= good) but Charlize Theron has proved what we’ve always thought, mostly they’re just creepsville.
The Snow White and the Huntsman and Prometheus actress went on US show Conan and told the host about a recent date she auctioned off for charity, warning him (not that he’d be in as much demand): ‘Do not do it’.
And then, in one of the most hilariously honest descriptions of charity by a celebrity ever, Charlize said: “They trick you with the ‘people are suffering’ thing. You fall for it and before you know it you’re at a restaurant with some stranger. Like you could end up in Dahmer’s apartment!”, said the actress, getting in the name of an American serial killer and sex offender for good measure.
The 36-year-old Oscar-winner revealed to Conan she was so scared of dinner “with a strange man” that she had two of her girlfriends sit in the same restaurant during the date.
“Rich people can be creeps, too!” she said. “Look, I’d rather just give the money [to charity]. It was a scary thing. And [the guy] was weird!”
