It's been a bad month for celebrity romance. First it was Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes announcing they were getting a divorce, then Kerry Katona and her boyfriend Steve Alce called it a day, and now we have to report that Melanie Chisholm aka Mel C has split from her long-term partner.
The Spice Girl and boyfriend of ten years Thomas Starr have decided to go their separate ways. They have 3-year-old daughter Scarlet together.
A spokesman for Mel confirmed the news this morning.
The singer and star of new TV show Superstar met property developer Thomas during a holiday in Barbados in 2002, and they have been together ever since.
They shared a home in north London and welcomed daughter Scarlet in February 2009.
Just a few weeks ago Mel, 38, was joking about her relationship with 45-year-old Thomas in an interview with Good Housekeeping.
“I’d like my house to be run with military precision, but unfortunately someone else live there – a man!” she said.
“So he scuppers that. We’re probably a good combination, though, because he’s very spontaneous and I like to be organised,” she said.
A new chapter
But Mel, who's busy promoting the new Spice Girls musical Viva Forever, also hinted at a new chapter in her life, adding: “This year a new door has opened for me, and I’m curious to know what’s going to happen next.
“But doing this feels like my life has gone full circle and I’m back to my original passion – performing.”
We’re so sad to hear this news, but if anyone can get through a break up and come out fighting it’s Sporty Spice!
